Google Search Console Generative AI Performance Reports Rolling Out to More Regions
Google is expanding access to AI performance reports beyond the UK. India, Switzerland, and the US now reporting access. First real visibility into AI citation performance — "citation visibility" is now a measurable KPI separate from clicks.
What's Rolling Out
Google is expanding access to the new Search Console generative AI performance reports beyond the UK. Users in India, Switzerland, and the US are now reporting access. John Mueller confirmed it's a slow expanded rollout — not all properties have access yet.
Metrics
Impressions only — not clicks. When your URL appears in generative AI features in Search and Discover, it counts as an impression. There is no click data because AI features don't always send traffic.
Granularity
Hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly views. Breakdowns by page, country, device, and date. Same familiar GSC filtering — applied to a fundamentally new metric.
Coverage
Covers appearances in generative AI features in Search and Discover. Currently limited to regions where AI features are active and GSC has rolled out the reporting.
Why This Matters: "Citation Visibility" Is a New KPI
This is the first real visibility into how your content performs in AI features. Previously, AI citations were a black box — you had no idea if your content was being cited by AI Overviews, AI Mode, or other generative features. Now you can measure it.
The Fundamental Shift
The absence of click data means the metric is "citation visibility," not traffic. AI Overviews frequently cite entity descriptions without sending clicks. For entity sites, this is critical: your content can be highly visible to AI systems without generating a single organic click. "Being cited by AI" is now a measurable metric separate from "getting clicked."
Three Actions for Entity Sites
| Action | Description | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| 1. GSC AI Report Monitoring | As soon as the Generative AI performance report appears in GSC, pull baselines for all entity pages. Which entities get AI impressions? Which queries trigger them? Entity pages are natural AI citation targets — measure your AI visibility baseline now. | Immediate |
| 2. AI vs. Organic Impressions Gap Analysis | Once GSC AI reports are available, compare AI impressions vs. organic impressions for entity queries. High AI impressions + low organic clicks = AI is citing entity data without sending traffic. Optimize for citation quality over click-through. | After rollout |
| 3. Citation Visibility as a Standalone KPI | The report shows impressions without clicks. Track AI impression share as a standalone KPI for entity pages. Entity sites that can demonstrate high AI citation rates for their entities build a new form of authority — "AI-cited" is the new "backlinked." | Ongoing |
Implications for Hermes Agent Reviews
Hermes Agent Reviews is an entity comparison site — every page teaches AI systems about specific AI agents. The GSC AI performance reports will reveal whether entity pages are being cited by Google's generative AI features for agent-related queries. Three immediate priorities:
- Claim GSC AI report access: As soon as the Generative AI performance report appears for hermes-agent.reviews, establish baselines for all entity pages (Hermes Agent, Gobii, comparison pages, benchmark pages).
- Track entity-level AI citation share: Which specific agent entities get cited by AI features? Hermes Agent? Gobii? Both? The comparison pages? Entity citation patterns reveal which entities the AI considers authoritative.
- Optimize for citation quality: If AI features cite Hermes entity pages, ensure the cited snippets are accurate, complete, and favorable. The AI is forming entity conclusions from those citations — make sure the data it gets is the data you want it to have.
Bottom Line
"Citation visibility" is the first measurable proxy for how AI systems perceive your entity authority. Entity sites that ignore this metric are flying blind in the AI-search era. The GSC AI reports make the invisible visible — and entity sites are uniquely positioned to benefit because entity descriptions are exactly what AI features cite.
